The Saba Conservation Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, established in 1987 with the mandate to conserve Saba’s natural and cultural heritage, is currently seeking applicants for the position of:

EDUCATION & PUBLIC OUTREACH COORDINATOR

The position is based at the SCF Headquarters in Fort Bay, but workplace locations may vary. The responsibilities, qualifications and terms and conditions will be as follows:

1. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The SCF Education Coordinator organizes and carries out nature and environmental education activities, within the SCF’s objectives, responsibilities and community expectations, to ensure widespread support for the conservation of biodiversity, cultural heritage and the sustainable use of Saba’s natural resources:

  • Develops annual education plans, activity budgets and reports;
  • Is responsible for the development and distribution of educational materials;
  • Plans and conducts after-school programs;
  • Organizes and conducts environmental awareness programs, special events or activities;
  • Prepares and publishes regular media releases on SCF activities;
  • Is responsible for training and retraining of staff and volunteers to support SCF education programs; Prepares and delivers SCF outreach presentations and orientations to visitors;
  • Prepares and delivers mandatory marine park orientations to local dive staff;
  • Prepares and conducts mandatory training of volunteers intending to engage in lionfish management;

2. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Teacher’s degree in primary/secondary education or equivalent preferred;
  2. Relevant training in the field of nature conservation, (marine) biology, water sports (scouting, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking)
  3. At least 3 years experience in a similar function.

3. PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Has excellent interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Is responsible and representative;
  • Must be a capable team player;
  • Has good written and oral communication skills; Is computer literate (Microsoft Office and Internet); Displays consistent initiative and creativity;

Has the ability to work with community groups and a keen interest in environmental conservation.

4. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Working hours weekdays and/or weekends at a mutually agreeable time, except national holidays; Institutional support for personal development through training;
  • Office space will be provided with all necessary equipment to carry out duties;
  • He/She reports to the Parks Manager;
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
